Deputy Sheriff David Wade

Deputy Sheriff David Wade Logan County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma End of Watch: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 BFTF Representatives That Attended Funeral: Richard Bishop PO 2850 Retired Vincent O'Shaughnessy DET 179 Lloyd Harbor PD Retired
The following was shared with us by Vinny: This past week, along with Police Officer Rich Bishop, SCPD, I had the honor to represent the Suffolk County Police Brotherhood for the Fallen at the Funeral for Logan County Deputy Sheriff David Wade. On May 18, 2017, approximately 0830, Deputy Wade was serving an eviction notice. He encountered 3subjects at the residence and began checking their identification, when one subject opened fire striking Deputy Wade several times, in the face and body and then fled the scene. Deputy Wade, despite his injuries, was able to radio a description of his attackers, who were taken into custody several hours later. We met with the Brotherhood chapters from NY, Chicago and Aroura to attend the wake together and visit the Sheriff’s Department to pay our respects. The wake/viewing was held from noon-8pm. This is why we make such a huge impact. Upon arrival at the funeral home, less than 2 or 3 other visiting Police agencies could be seen. The Logan County Sheriffs were extremely grateful to see, 8 police Officers all in their dress blues, who had traveled thousands of miles to pay our respects to their fallen hero. Quick bonds were established and they invited us all back to the Sheriff’s Department and were given a tour of their facilities, and as cops do no matter where they are from, we told war stories and remembered lost friends. The funeral was a non-denominational service held at the Lazy E arena, an 8,000 person, capacity arena, hosted by Pastor Robby Robbins. Pastor Robbins spoke of David as a friend and fellow church goer, a devoted husband and father. Jerry Wade, David’s brother spoke of their childhood together, their service together in the 179th infantry division and their time in Bosnia as part of the peacekeeping mission. Other speakers included David’s first Chief, Veronica Thomas of the Cashion Police Department and Sheriff Damon Devereaux. Immediately following the funeral, a long procession of motorcycles and marked vehicles led the casket throughout Guthrie OK, and then a graveside ceremony where Deputy Wade was laid to rest. All 5 brotherhood chapters met for a fellowship at the Lazy E Arena sponsored by a local business owner. We were treated with some amazing BBQ and met some wonderful people who could not tell us enough how grateful they were to us, that we had made this trip to honor David. It was a great honor to represent the Brotherhood for a fallen hero and I can’t count the number of cops, different departments and civilians that went out of their way to thank us for coming down to pay our respects. It is a great thing this organization does and again I thank you for the opportunity to represent you all. Thank you Rich and Vinny for representing us so well. We are proud to have you as members of the Brotherhood For The Fallen, Suffolk County, NY.
